We are currently regrowing our Caulerpa stocks.
Caulerpa
Prolifera will add a great natural look to the marine tank. This algae
can adapt better to various water conditions than Caulerpa Taxifolia.
The fronds are attached to a thick rhizome which will attach itself to rock which means it can be restricted in the tank.
Caulerpa Prolifera is a beautiful macroalgae species, offering long blades which can grow up to 20-30 cm long.
It
will be vacuum sealed with some salt water to keep any copepods and the algae alive, double bagged.
Light
The Caulerpa Prolifera macroalgae needs just a medium strong lighting to grow well.
Attaching
As this Caulerpa algae species will attach itself to rock, but grows well in substrates such as gravel and coral sand with its rhizoids (like roots). We
recommend not to place it too close to your main rock, unlike you like
to have it there. It needs some trimming and care. Great to keep in the
refugium/sump as well for nitrate and phosphate removal.
Caulerpa Case
Some
Caulerpa macroalgae species might go sexual, which means that it
releases gametes and tissue into the aquarium water. One way to avoid this is good light and to remove
pale turning parts of it.
Trimming
Whitish parts of this algae should be removed as they are decomposing.
Placement
This macroalgae can be either placed in the Refugium where it would need an enclosed space or in the marine Display Tank.
Palatability
This macroalgae is very rarely eaten, although some marine algae eating fishes might nip on it time to time.
It provides great holdfasts for Seahorses.
